Having just got back from a trip to Kruger Park and back, it’s been a big surprise to find that Paarl is way hotter than anywhere else on the trip.  But it’s always good to get back and sit behind the wheel and dip your hands in a bowl of cool water all day – of course this changes in winter…  Highlight of the trip was a visit to the grand old man of SA pottery, and I found him to be even more of a remarkable person, potter and artist than I even expected -

I’ve been making some large bottles in slipped terracotta – this is how one of them came out -

I’ve also – and I must admit that this was a swerve to the East for no discernible reason – been making these large Japanese style garden lanterns -

And, inspired by Mr Bosch, I’ve been making some porcelain jewellery boxes, vases and lidded jars -

Check back in a week or so to see how these turn out once they’re fired, could be two weeks – I’m in a massive throwing cycle at the moment.
