Is there a more depressing activity than markets?  Well, yes – a market where you have hardly any sales.  This Sunday, people were staying away in droves.  Only my tumbling prices strategy resulted in one or two sales.  Other participants also remarked on the poor attendance and sales.  Cape Town starts hunkering down for winter.  Time for me to hunker down this winter too, and make some pots that will sell.  Therefore I am now heading up the West Coast for a brief break and hopefully some inspiration – Nieuwoudtville and Paternoster.

Nico kindly helped me out in throwing this order of ramikins.  Actually, kindness had nothing to do with it, more the promise of folding money.    I had already thrown 40 of these, and the thought of throwing another fifty almost caused a nervous breakdown.  But here’s one of the best production potters getting going…

I’ll be at Kirstenbosch market on the 26th.  I’ve spent the weekend making a couple of planters to take with, and hoping I actually have the time to fire them this week – sure sign of an organized potter…
